Alcohol Addiction

There is an unrecognized, unreported, and untreated epidemic of problem drinking among Floridians, especially retirees. Alcohol misuse is a serious problem effecting both men and women, and as many as 9 % of seniors drink excessively. For many regular drinking has become a social ritual before, with, and after dinner. This is tragic as alcohol related medical issues prevent many seniors from living the retirement they always dreamt of.

Dual Diagnosis

Dr. Kittay is both a psychiatrist and addiction medicine doctor which makes him the perfect doctor for treating patients with dual diagnoses. Dual Diagnoses is defined as a person diagnosed with both a substance or alcohol use disorder and a psychiatric illness. Dual Diagnosis occurs in 40%-50% of addictions. Addiction treatment will be unsuccessful if co-occurring psychiatric problems are not properly treated. Good psychiatric care is essential to successful addiction treatment and recovery. Dr. Kittay is member of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatrists.
